Week 10

Because we missed our tutorial in week 10 we didn't receive the tutorial exercises until week 11. Because of this we were behind a week in our tutorials and I haven't got round to completing the week 10 exercise. I will however look through the video tutorial and see whether I can use any new skills in my final work.

These are the links to various video examples that I have referred to in my Synopsis.

How To Impress:

Please note that the times that it says I posted these are not correct- I go to bed early and therefore did not post anything at 2am.

Week 9

This week we learnt how to Rotoscope. I have decided I do not have enough patience for this! I made a good start on it, and spent ages moving the mask around, then realised that I had really only done 2 seconds. Because of time restraints I haven't done any further Rotoscoping, but I am more confident that I can incorporate this effect into my final project.
This is the mood board I made in a 1960's style.

This is exercise 1. I went a little overboard with the effects, but absolutely loved the snow one so decided I would keep it on there.

Exercise 2: Rotoscoping

Week 8

In week 8 we learnt motion tracking and corner pinning. I thought these exercises would be incredibly difficult, but once I watched the video tutorials I managed to complete the tasks fairly successfully. They aren't perfect, but I decided not to spend too long on them, as I felt I had mastered the basic technique and I should spend more time putting that into play in my assessment.

Week 7

Week 7 was the introduction to 3D cameras. I found this incredibly challenging. Although I am having trouble with more complex effects using the 3D camera, I have been able to tackle the easier effects, like zooming in and out and panning across the screen. I had trouble using the orbit camera tool, getting a 3D background layer underneath another. I will endeavour to master the 3D camera tool so that I can take full advantage of it in my final assessment.
I found that the 3D camera tool helped greatly with my first assignment, and it gives an extra depth (obviously) to my exercises.

Week 6

The Week 6 tutorial was very interesting: we learnt how to create Graffiti-like images and then animate the mask around them so they appear to be sprayed onto a surface. I was surprised at just how easy it was to create this affect and I have used it in almost everything I have created since. Following this tutorial I am much more confident in using masks in After Effects, as well as using effects to alter the colours in an image.

Week 5

For this week's tutorial we were given a design brief, instructing us to make an add for Mad Mack's- a major retailer. I enjoyed this exercise, particularly because by this stage I was getting much more confident in using After Effects. I thought this exercise had a fluidity that previous exercises were lacking, and I also found that I could complete this task much faster.

Week 4

The exercise this week asked us to create a temporal identity for a location we have a strong connection to. Because I haven't lived in Brisbane for very long I chose the Rainforest for my location. I played around with using masks this week and although the end product isn't great, I am slowly improving!

Week 3

This week we animated text to correspond to an audio file. I played around with a few animation presets for some of the words, and also mastered some of the more simple options in the Transform menu, including opacity, position and scale. I'm fairly satisfied with the outcome of this exercise.

Week 2

This was our first tutorial for this subject, and the introduction to Adobe After Effects. During this lesson we played around with images in photoshop and then uploaded them to After Effects. I didn't end up saving my project, and since we were really only experimenting, I haven't re-done it.
